The Farmer-to-Farmer (FtF) Country Director
The overall purpose of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Farmer-to-Farmer (FTF) program is to support international agricultural development, with an emphasis on improving private agricultural operations.
This includes all aspects of agricultural production and post-harvest activities, such as processing, marketing, credit and input supply, as well as improved agri-business management.
Through the FTF Program, USAID seeks to utilize a broad range of agricultural expertise to work with farmers, agricultural support systems and agribusinesses in regions listed below. The project is designed to facilitate the improvement of farm and agribusiness operations and agricultural systems, including animal care and health, field crop cultivation, fruit and vegetable growing, livestock operations, food processing and packaging, farm credit, marketing, inputs, agricultural extension, and the strengthening of cooperatives and other farmer organizations.
Through FTF, USAID seeks to utilize a broad range of U.S. agricultural expertise, on a voluntary basis, to work with farmers, agricultural support systems and agribusinesses in eligible countries listed below. The work of volunteers is designed to facilitate the improvement of farm and agribusiness operations and agricultural systems.
We are currently seeking a Country Director for an upcoming Farmer-to-Farmer program in Indonesia. Start date will be approximately September 2008 and position is subject to ACDI/VOCA being awarded the activity.
Responsibilities:
- Provide overall management responsibility for all components of project activities
- Technical direction for the entire program and ensure the project is managed in accordance to the approved yearly work-plans
- Monitor and approve overall project allocations and expenditures and ensure that all project financial reporting is done in accordance to USAID regulations and ACDI/VOCA accounting policies and procedures
- Develop demand-driven scopes of work in collaboration with host organizations
- Brief and debrief volunteers in-country on assignment
- Ensure project achieves monitoring and evaluation plan targets
- Identify issues and risks related to program implementation in a timely manner and suggest appropriate program adjustments
- Maintain strong relationships with home office and donor personnel, partners and collaborators and any other associated stakeholder
- Represent ACDI/VOCA and the project to the public and donor community
Qualifications:
- Minimum of Master’s degree in agribusiness, agricultural economics or another related field is required
- Minimum of 5 years of overseas experience in international development, with at least 3 years experience managing a multidisciplinary team in developing country is required
- Technical specialties in agriculture and agribusiness, especially in agricultural production and post-harvest
- Experience in strengthening associations, cooperatives and other agricultural enterprises Regional experience is highly desirable
- Experience managing volunteer programs is preferable
- USAID management experience is required
- Fluency in English is required
